Employment law & statutory payment increases

In previous editions Alcumus has advised on a number of changes which come into effect in April, therefore a brief reminder that these are now in effect.

Collective redundancy consultation period:

With effect from the 6 April 2013, the minimum period for collective redundancy consultation is reduced where 100 or more employees are to be made redundant.

Where an employer makes proposals on or after 6 April declare 100 or more employees redundant, within a period of 90 days or less, the consultation period is reduced from at least 90 days before the first dismissal takes effect to at least 45 days before the first dismissal takes effect.

The minimum consultation period where the employer is proposing to dismiss between 20 and 99 employees remains at 30 days.

Statutory Payments:

Statutory sick pay increased from £85.85 to £86.70 per week on 6 April 2013

Statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay increased from £135.45 to £136.78 per week on 7th April 2013.
