It is that time of year again when any increase to the National Minimum Wage becomes effective. We have reported on this in a previous newsletter, however this article serves as a reminder that with effect from 1st October 2013 the increases to the minimum wage are as follows:
- Age 21 and over increases to £6.31
- Age 18-20 £5.03
- Under 18 £3.72
- Apprentices £2.68
The rate for apprentices is for those who are under 19 or those in their first year. If the apprentice is aged 19 or over and past their first year they are entitled to the rate that applies to their age.
A further change to the National Minimum Wage Regulations is that, with effect from October 2013, the Government will be looking to “name and shame” spurious employers who fail to pay the national minimum wage!
For HR clients of Alcumus, your online policy and procedures will be updated accordingly with effect from 1st October 2013.
