The SHP IOSH Awards took place at the London Hilton on 20th October, and we were delighted to present Roger Bibbings MBE with the IOSH Lifetime Achievement Award, which is sponsored by Sypol, part of the Alcumus Group.
The Award is given each year to recognise the sustained and outstanding contribution made by an individual throughout their working life to realise excellence in workplace health and safety.
Martin Smith, Group Chief Executive of Alcumus said: “Roger has had a long and distinguished career, not just within health and safety but as one of the people who has helped create the health and safety community itself.
He continued: “In his role with the TUC he was influential in developing the agenda to address all work-related risks, including occupational road risk, and in his time at RoSPA he has continued to campaign, to be a challenging thinker and develop new ideas.”
In his acceptance speech Roger said: “I am surprised and highly flattered to be named this year’s winner. During my career I have received much help and encouragement, and have been given many opportunities by people who have been so influential in helping to build the fantastic health and safety regime we have today.
“Safety depends on people working together as a team – prima donnas don’t cut it in our field, so when individuals are singled out for recognition and thanks, it is crucial to understand the even greater gratitude due to all those who have worked with them.”
