On 24th February 2017, Alcumus was honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to officially open the new Alcumus head office at Axys House, Parc Nantgarw, Cardiff.

Martin Smith, Alcumus CEO said:

“It is a very special honour to have HRH The Prince of Wales officially open our new head office in Cardiff. Our ties with Wales are long-standing and we are also involved with several mutual initiatives such as The Prince’s Trust and the Armed Forces Covenant.”

His Royal Highness received a tour of the offices and met various Alcumus employee groups, including long-serving members of the Alcumus workforce, who have been with the company for 20 years or more. He also met the many Armed Forces veterans working for the company.

One of the ex-servicemen and women that His Royal Highness met was Rory Underwood, Alcumus Development Director and former rugby union player, who has represented England and the British and Irish Lions.

Rory Underwood commented:

“It’s a great day for Alcumus to have Prince Charles open our new office here in South Wales. From my point of view as a former member of the RAF it’s also good to see that Alcumus is a big supporter of the Armed Forces Covenant. We are very proud that 10% of our workforce are ex-military. HRH has spent a lot of time today speaking to our employees who served in the Armed Forces including those who are still in service as members of the Reserves.”

HRH The Prince of Wales also met the team who worked on the new partnership between Alcumus and The Prince’s Trust. The Trust is introducing Alcumus Info Exchange as part of a three-year benefaction agreement. This three-year partnership will see The Prince’s Trust benefit from a bespoke web-based information management system that will streamline its health, safety and compliance management procedures.

Finally, HRH The Prince of Wales met the company’s University of South Wales Alumni – 12% of Alcumus employees attended the University of South Wales, including CEO Martin Smith, who last year received the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award. His Royal Highness also met with representatives of the USW Exchange business support project, of which Alcumus is a key partner.

Martin Smith commented:

“With the new Alcumus head office being close to the USW Exchange, we are in an ideal location to work together and support each other going forward”.

HRH The Prince of Wales then made a speech as he officially opened the new Alcumus head office. The full speech can be read here on the official Prince of Wales website.
