It’s no secret that the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is proactively focusing on reducing work-related health issues that affect UK workers. This year alone, a number of targeted inspection initiatives and numerous awareness campaigns have been launched. Coupled with the increase in the severity of fines issued for non-compliance, it has never been more important to have adequate health and safety management systems in place.
In order for organisations to manage their COSHH- related risks, first they need to understand what risk levels their workers are exposed to on a daily basis based on the use of hazardous substances. Alcumus Sypol
has developed an interactive calculator tool that helps organisations to gain this understanding.
The online tool can be completed in three minutes and will build a summary of any organisation’s COSHH risk profile by assessing more than 400 variables. Users will be informed whether their organisation rates as a high, medium or low risk and will be able to request a free, professional COSHH risk assessment for a substance of their choice. This will enable them to see an example of how to manage hazardous substances compliantly.
Mike Harris, CMS Operations Manager of Alcumus Sypol said: “13,000 deaths were linked to past exposure to harmful substances at work in 2018. Understanding your organisation’s control of substances hazardous to health is key to protecting staff as well as reducing the risk of substantial fines.
“With this in mind, I am excited to announce that our new COSHH calculator is now live and ready for use. We have been developing this for some time and know that it will be of great benefit in helping businesses understand their COSHH risks and remain compliant”.
