Edward Gee, Technical and Compliance Director at Platinum, has wide-ranging responsibilities which include Safety, Health, Environment and Quality and their Integrated Management Systems. They are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and, most recently, ISO 55001.

“Our motivation for getting certified to ISO 55001 was to gain recognition for our Asset Management policy and procedures,” says Ed. “Very few of our competitors have this certification, so it makes us stand out in the market.”
Platinum have been carrying out condition base maintenance since 2012 and, as Ed puts it: “We wanted to put a recognised standard to this maintenance technique. This will hopefully give us a competitive edge when participating in tenders.”
The company has also enjoyed other benefits since implementing ISO 55001. As Ed explains: “It has brought about clear internal efficiencies which has reduced our maintenance costs. It’s also raised service performance, enhanced risk-based decision making and improved the quality of information for new capex requests.”
Regarding implementation of the system, Ed says: “It was fairly simple as there was a large crossover with our existing ISO certification in 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001.” They were also supported by Blackmores, a leading ISO standards consultancy. “They assisted us in tying all our process together and carried out a gap and risk analysis, so we ensured we met all the clauses within the standard.”
