RBS Scaffolding Ltd is one of the largest independent scaffolding companies on the south coast with a work force of up to 70 people at peak periods. They provide access solutions for all major contractors operating in Hampshire and the surrounding counties.
"Our client list is as varied as the standards expected by each of them," says Geoff Kennett, Commercial Director. "Our ambition was to ensure we applied the same high level of health, safety, quality and compliance across all our sites, particularly where standards of the contractors that we work for falls below ours."
To achieve this, they first introduced ISO 9001 Quality Management. As Geoff says: "It serves as a reference, demonstrating to our staff, to customers and to external authorities how we meet our statutory and commercial obligations with respect to quality management."
The introduction of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety soon followed. ISO 9001 provided the platform on which to build an Integrated Management System, meaning there’s no duplication of effort in maintaining the certifications.
"Health, safety and welfare issues rank equally with other business objectives," says Geoff, "and achieving good health and safety performance is consistent with overall successful business performance. We recognise that failure to integrate health and safety into our operations will result in harm to people and the business. So, we take an integrated approach where managing health and safety forms part of the overall business strategy."
The consistent approach across our sites has also seen RBS nominated for several Health & Safety Awards including the BP Safety Contractor Award, Morgan Sindall Southern Region Safety Contractor of the Year, Morgan Sindall National Safety Contractor Finalist and NASC Health & Safety.
