The British standard for occupational health and safety

This standard has been replaced by ISO 45001

What is OHSAS 18001?

BS OHSAS 18001 is an internationally recognised British standard for occupational health and safety management. It enables organisations to manage risk and helps ensure compliance with legislation. It helps create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment for workers, visitors and anyone affected by your organisation’s activities.

BS OHSAS 18001 has been replaced by ISO 45001

As of 12th March 2018, BS OHSAS 18001 has been superseded by ISO 45001, the world’s first international standard for occupational health and safety management systems.

BS OHSAS certificates will no longer be valid from March 2021.

If you are not yet certified to BS OHSAS 18001, we are still accepting applications for this standard. However, we recommend you should get ISO 45001 certification if your timescales for achieving certification are after October 2018.

If you are currently implementing BS OHSAS 18001, then it may be beneficial for you to seek ISO 45001 certification. Speak to us about what approach to take.

If you are currently BS OHSAS 18001 certified, then you need to migrate to the new ISO 45001 standard by March 2021. Get help migrating to ISO 45001.
