Workplace Monitoring

Control your workplace risks

Monitoring and maintenance of workplace risks

It is nearly impossible to completely remove all aspects of risk.  However, we can put measures in place to reduce or mitigate these hazards when we have identified the potential cause.
Effective COSHH management is not a static process; it requires regular monitoring and assessment to ensure that your people are safeguarded against potential issues that could have a long-lasting impact on their health.
Regardless of whether staff are being exposed to hazardous substances, using heavy machinery or working in a noisy environment, regular workplace monitoring enables you to identify risks, take action to mitigate them and demonstrate compliance.

The COSHH Cycle

Identify and assess the potential health risks arising from exposure to hazards.

Research suggests almost a quarter of workers are exposed to harmful substances carried in the air whilst at work. Whether it is dust, solvent or fumes, uncontrolled methods of work can seriously impact the health of workers.

Our occupational hygienists employ a range of techniques to sample and analyse the air against the current Workplace Exposure Limits. They will also suggest practical means to prevent or reduce exposure to such hazardous substances.

We can provide:

  • Site walk-through surveys

  • Dust, fume, vapour, particulate and gas monitoring

  • Air quality surveys

  • Exposure quantification

  • Exposure specific COSHH assessments

  • Recommendations for improvement

Stay legally compliant by using local exhaust ventilation (LEV) techniques.

Under the COSHH Regulations, companies must take steps to prevent, control, maintain and monitor dust and fume exposure in the workplace.

Undertaking LEV checks to assure safe working conditions for employees is a legal obligation of all employers and any employer that uses LEV techniques in the workplace must have equipment examined and tested on a regular basis.

We can provide:

  • Flow rate measurement

  • Capture velocity measurement

  • Duct pressure measurement

  • Reports and action plans

  • Recommendations for improvement

Alcumus can carry out an independent assessment of your water systems and an audit of the precautions in place to minimise the risks identified. As we do not provide water treatment services, our assessments are totally independent.

Our water samples are analysed by a UKAS accredited laboratory. We can take steps to ensure that the water treatment regime you have in place is suitable and sufficient and that you are not paying for expensive treatment regimes that are not required.

Reduce the risk of long term injury to employees with our vibration monitoring services.

Exposures to hand arm vibration (HAV) or whole body vibration can have a significant impact on an individual’s way of life, yet the controls can be relatively simple.

Not only can we help you reduce your exposure to both hand arm vibration and whole body vibration, but we can also integrate the control of vibration into your existing methods of work.

All our monitoring equipment is calibrated and maintained to ensure you receive the most accurate results. Our clear, colour coded reports help you understand current hazards and provide recommendations for improvement.

We provide:

  • Hand/arm vibration measurement

  • Whole body vibration measurement

  • Assessment of control

  • Detailed colour coded reports

  • Action plans

  • Recommendations for improvement

Measure and monitor the effect of elevated sound on your employees.

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 requires employers to prevent or reduce risks to health and safety from exposure to noise at work.

As a business you have a duty to assess the risks which affect your employees, understand acceptable noise limits and take action to reduce exposure. Our team of occupational hygienists are able to perform a full noise survey of your premises and give guidance on areas for improvement.

We provide:

  • Static or background noise measurements

  • Shift length personal dosimetry

  • Octave band frequency analysis

  • Analysis of hearing protection suitability

  • Noise competency training courses

  • Noise mapping

  • Environmental noise measurement
