Why do I need noise monitoring?
Part of your noise assessment may require physical data to quantify the levels of noise your staff are exposed to. Noise monitoring ensures that workers are not exposed to levels of noise that could cause permanent hearing damage, such as tinnitus or hearing loss.
The assessments can also be used to ensure that staff have an adequate level of hearing to be able to hear workplace alert sounds, such as fire alarms, line stops and vehicle movement.
Other reasons to conduct noise monitoring in the workplace include:

- Protecting your employees’ hearing
- Ensuring compliance with noise exposure limits under The Control of Noise at Work Regulations
