Put others first – Always consider your customers, colleagues and communities, take a different perspective, seek common ground and be happy to succeed through others.

Speak up – Be brave, have an opinion, give constructive feedback freely and accept feedback gracefully.

See it through – Do what you said you were going to do, when you said you were going to do it. Find a way to succeed.

Show humility –- Be open, approachable and be prepared to listen and learn.

Look forward – Act with the long-term in mind; think ahead. Be progressive and sustainable in what you do and how you do it.

Head of Recruitment and Retention

Terri Foulston

People are at the heart of our business. My role within Alcumus is to ensure we attract and hire the best and brightest talent into the organisation, making sure every new employee feels supported every step of the way. The business is growing rapidly which is incredibly exciting and there is a really friendly, supportive culture that makes every day enjoyable. My passion sits with developing people and watching them grow so it has been great seeing so many internal promotions across the group this year and a big investment from the business into supporting our employees to reach their full potential.

Talent Scout

Euiain Herring

My role as Talent Scout for Alcumus is to incorporate our ‘Look Forward’ value into the way we recruit. Partnering with hiring managers across the group and proactively scouting & building relationships with the best talent on the market, to then join Alcumus and drive our growing business forward. 4 years recruitment experience combined with a passion for building relationships ensure I have a thoroughly enjoyable job recruiting and then witnessing the people we bring in grow with our business.

Internal Recruiter

Beth Poulton

“I am the newbie on the Recruitment team, having joined in July 2018. My role as an Internal Recruiter is to support The Alcumus Group with recruitment across the business, including arranging and holding Assessment Centres for new and exciting roles.

"I have a strong recruitment background within agency and internal and am excited to take on the challenge in supporting the business grow by recruiting the best and brightest talent in to the organisation.  My favourite part about Recruitment is building relationships from our hiring managers to our candidates and supporting them throughout the Recruitment process.  One of my favourite values of the Alcumus Group is “Aim High”.

"It’s great to see that some of the team’s new recruits are already progressing throughout the company."

People Coordinator

Amelia Barwell

“I started with Alcumus in 2016 as an Internal Recruiter and in May 2018 I was lucky to be offered the chance to begin a new role as People Coordinator.

"This role is in place to provide support to new employees and line managers throughout the onboarding process and all the way through to completing probation. This role encompasses everything I love about recruitment; speaking to new people, making sure they have the best experience possible and also allows me to deliver induction and training where needed which I thoroughly enjoy.

"Alcumus has given me the chance to complete my Recruitment Certificate and also my IOSH – Managing Safely, it’s great to work for a company that is so invested in its people.”

ApplicationTips

It’s important to go through the job description carefully to ensure that the vacancy is right for you   –  and that you’re right for the vacancy! Before applying, check that you have the relevant skills and experience; this will save time for everyone involved.

Show us why you’re a good fit for the role by tailoring your application to meet the job description. Go through each aspect of the role and provide evidence of how you meet the essential criteria.

While it may be tempting to include every single aspect of your employment history and work experience, they’re unlikely to be relevant. Focus on what’s relevant to the role you’re applying for and keep things short and sweet – the interview will give you the chance to elaborate.

Your application needs to stand out from the rest, so use it as an opportunity to highlight your key achievements and show off your skills. It is likely that you’ll have the same qualifications as the next applicant so by including your unique successes, you’ll have a better chance of being shortlisted.

If you have gained skills and experiences outside of the workplace that you perceive to be relevant for the role, include them in your application. Life skills can be just as valuable as work experience.

Interview Tips

We understand that interviews can be daunting, however the Alcumus team is welcoming and will make you feel at ease. To help you to make a good impression, we have highlighted some tips below:

Do your research
You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of what we do and the role you are interviewing for.

Be yourself
This is your chance to shine, so try not to let your nerves get the better of you. Take it as a compliment that we’ve invited you in for an interview – we want to get know you! Be genuine and remind yourself that an interview is essentially just a conversation.

Prepare accordingly
You may be asked competency-based questions, which can sometimes be quite tricky to answer on the spot. Ahead of your interview, look at examples of competency-based questions online and think of how best to answer them to reflect your experiences.

Make a good first impression
First impressions count; you don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression. Make sure your interview attire is professional but comfortable; the last thing you want is to feel self-conscious about your appearance. Choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and smart.

Manage your body language
Body language can say a lot about a person. Ensure your body language is open and expressive by making eye contact and nodding while listening. This will show you’re eager and interested in what the interviewer is saying. Don’t cross your arms and remember, a smile goes a long way.

Stay professional
We want to understand your reasons for leaving your job, but it’s important to maintain a professional attitude about your current employer. We don’t want to hear you badmouth your boss, colleagues or place of work.

Be punctual
You won’t make a good first impression if you’re late. Aim to arrive 10-15 minutes before your interview. This will give you time to compose yourself and familiarise yourself with the surroundings.

Ask questions
Most interviewers will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have at the end of the interview. Prepare a few questions in advance that demonstrate that you want to find out more about the vacancy; this is a great way to wrap up an interview and leave a memorable impression.

Good luck!
