Role Purpose: 
Involved in the maintenance and development of existing Java applications. This includes anything between complex groups of back-end services and their client-end (desktop and mobile) counterparts. Your primary responsibility will be to develop these applications, and to work with the rest of the team working on different layers of the infrastructure. Thus, a commitment to collaborative problem solving and product quality is essential
 
Role Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of software quality within the team by following good practices and habits.

  • Identify and encourage areas for growth and improvement within the team.

  • Collaborate with other software developers, business analysts and software architects to plan, design, develop, test, and maintain web- and desktop-based business applications.

  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user's requirements and the development of user stories.

  • Supporting the creation of specifications for new systems and/or enhancements to existing systems.

  • Provide input to enable the production of accurate estimates for requests for new work and/or enhancements to existing systems.

  • Design, develop, and unit test applications in accordance with established standards. Participate in peer-reviews of solution designs and related code for junior developers.

  • Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on-time and on-budget.

  • Provide third-level support to business users.

  • Programming and technical expertise in delivering intuitive, high quality and error free code.

  • Adapting and learning to work with other languages/platforms where required.

  • Working in an Agile: Scrum or Kanban environment.

  • Follow company programming standards during the software development process. Produce detailed technical documentation, as per company standards describing the new system and/or enhancements including implementation decisions made.

  • Ensure that the new system and/or enhancement is correct and is of a standard to be handed over to the client.

  • To attend and participate in Company meetings as required.

  • Any other duties as reasonably requested

Ensure that the Business Analyst Manager is aware of any issues that may affect the efficiency of the department or a significant issue with a system
 
Required Experience

  • 2-3+ years’ experience of development in Java, with a good knowledge of its ecosystems

  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming

  • Familiar with various design and architectural patterns

  • Knowledge of concurrency patterns in Java

  • Familiarity with concepts of MVC, JDBC, and RESTful

  • Knack for writing clean, readable Java code

  • Experience with both external and embedded databases

  • Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application

  • Basic understanding of the class loading mechanism in Java

  • Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes

  • Basic understanding of JVM, its limitations, weaknesses, and workarounds

  • Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests

  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git

  • Familiarity with build tools such as Ant, Maven, and Gradle

  • Familiarity with continuous integration

Desired

  • Experience working with CQRS and event sourced architectures.

  • Experience of using Tomcat, Nginx, Docker and AWS.
